A voice enters a dark room a little after two. It asks for nothing except breath, sets one rule, and keeps it. Ten minutes in the second person, spoken in German — slow, explicit where it must be, and quiet at the end.

Close your eyes. No — they are closed already. I know. I can see it.
You are lying on your side, the blanket up to your chin, one hand between your knees, the way you always lie when you are still thinking. It is a little after two. Outside, the city is asleep, and that is the best thing it does.
Do you hear that? That is the door. Not the door to your flat. The other one. The one you knew would open, sooner or later, if you stayed awake long enough.
I am here.
You do not have to do anything. That is the only rule tonight, and I want you to hear it before anything else happens.
